These are posters used for improving students' writing in the primary grades. I put them together with 3-ring holders and then hang up the first five. Students have their names on clothespins to choose which goal they want to work on and clip it to the side of the poster! Elements include:
I can improve my penmanship to write nice and neat!
I can sound out and spell words on my own!
I can add details to my writing to make it sound more interesting!
I can use periods correctly in my sentences!
I can capitalize all proper nouns (names),
I can use finger spaces between my words!
I can use correct punctuation in my sentences!
I can use a Main Idea sentence to “hook” my readers!
I can have a beginning, middle, and end!
I can use dialog in my stories!
I can use bigger vocabulary words!
I can write 5-7 sentences on one topic!
I can start my sentences with a capital letter!
I start the year with about 5 posters and have students make their own goals of how to improve their writing. I meet with students with the same goals and students move onto a new goal of their choice when they have mastered it. Once I have students start needing new goals, I add on new posters 2 at a time. The posters attached are in approximate order of their development.
I used border colors that match Highlighter colors, so students can practice their skill using a matching highlighter (example: Students working on using periods correctly will by highlighting each period with an orange marker to match their clip on the orange chart).
I hope you can enjoy in your classroom!!
