Bring some winter spirit into your classroom with this fun writing and graphing activity! I used this in my classroom right before winter vacation and it was a big hit! (You could also use it after vacation.)
Students select one of five stylized papers and write a story about the places they will go (or went) during break (holiday shopping, a relative's house, etc.). They then treat the coordinate plane as a map and plot a point for each place they mentioned in the story. At each point they draw a miniature picture to represent the place and then write the coordinates for each location.
The graphics on the graphing pages match the graphics on the writing pages so students can choose a matching set. Also, two different graphs are included - all quadrants and quadrant I only so you can choose what is appropriate for your students or differentiate as needed. The student instructions are on the graphing pages. Please note that there is only ONE prompt...The different styles are just so the kiddos have a choice of which paper to use:)
I did not include any numbers on the graphs so that you can instruct students on how you want them to count each unit (by whole numbers, halves, etc.) My students had no problem writing in the numbers and it gave me the flexibility to change my instructions for different classes/students.
Your fourteen-page download includes:

2-5) Student writing pages (one of each style)
6-9) Student graphing pages (all quadrants, one of each style)
10-13) Student graphing pages (quadrant I only, one of each style)
