Lesson Plan: Includes the following: Objectives, CCSS, Timeline, Materials, Opening (who, what , when & how) , Model, Guided Practice, Independent Practice & Assessment. Unit taught covered our common core standards for informational text writing along with some of our science standards.

Literature List Suggestions: List of books to read or use as research about each of the topics.

6 Traits Writing Posters (Classroom & Individual Student): Classroom poster and student poster used as a reference to how writing is done using the 6 Traits.

Finished Organizational Chart: Example of how to fill out organizational chart with students. You can make a copy of student chart and show students how to fill out chart step by step.

Finished Book: Example of how a finished student booklet would look. You can show students using this example what expectations are for this informational writing piece.

Organizational Writing Chart: Student Nonfiction organization chart to use as a prewriting exercise to their writing the actual booklet.

Booklet Template (Cover and Individual Pages): Booklet for students to write their text on. Children will make a book about the 4 topics included in resource using an organizational writing chart to use for their final book copy.

Color & Number Book: Children will make a color and number book on a topic of their choice using an organizational writing chart to use for their final book copy. Books will be assessed by both student and teacher and may be read to classmates, younger students, & buddies.

♦ Food Book: Children will make a food book on a topic of their choice using an organizational writing chart to use for their final book copy. Books will be assessed by both student and teacher and may be read to classmates, younger students, & buddies. We had a food festival after completed our books in which we invited our parents and other school personnel. Suggestions and note are included in this unit.

♦ Seasons Book: Children will make a book about the four season using an organizational writing chart to use for their final book copy. Students will be required to draw tree diagrams with labels. Books will be assessed by both student and teacher and may be read to classmates, younger students, & buddies. This unit includes a classroom and individual student charts of weather words to use in describing the weather for each season.

♦ Life Cycle of a Butterfly: Children will make a life cycle of a butterfly book using an organizational writing chart to use for their final book copy. Their informational book will include the following text features: headings, diagram with labels, & graph. Books will be assessed by both student and teacher and may be read to classmates, younger students, & buddies.

Student Assessment Rubric: Students self-assess their own writing piece when finished using this rubric.

Teacher Assessment Rubric (2 types): Teacher assessment rubric to assess students final booklet. Two types are provided depending on your students age and ability level.
