This is a 3-day PowerPoint that covers a plethora of cool ways to write an introduction paragraph for an assigned prompt. Kids always get stuck on the first paragraph - by 5th grade, they usually know to start with a question if they are truly stumped for another approach. My goal with this set of lessons via PowerPoint is to show my students a lot of cool creative ways to draw readers into the most boring prompts. I include excerpts from popular children's books so the kids can see how professional authors employ these strategies, as well. There are slides for instruction, slides for activities for the kids to do at their seat, and group activities. By the end of these three days, I usually see a drastic change in how my kids open up their writing - I often revisit this PowerPoint before the state writing exam to refresh them on strategies they may not have used in awhile. I hope you find this useful!
