This Common Core mentor text writing unit teaches student 8 different ways to write introductions and start their stories with voice. Each way is detailed out in a week long sequence that has students connect topic/story to introduction sentence and practice writing each type. Each way also has 3 mentor text samples for each type of introduction.
The introduction writing includes:
Writing questions as introductions
Writing number statements as introductions
Writing dynamic description as an introduction
Using the power of 3 to introduce a piece
Using onomatopoeia to introduce writing
Using a definition to introduce writing
Writing similes as introduction
Using a combination of the methods to introduce a topic/story
This teaches kids to write introductions in a simple, explicit manner and gives them 8 ways to introduce a story/topic to add their writer's toolbox.
