Good writers draft different introductions to their story. This file provides a template for writers to draft three different leads into the same story, and choose the one that will really hook the reader in. With this activity, I like to give students time to brainstorm and write their leads independently. Then, I put students in small groups and have them read their leads out loud. The groups vote on which lead they think is the best for each student to begin their story with. Students use the best, most exciting introduction to begin their story! Good writers always hook their reader in from the beginning! I created this as a tool to use for Lucy Calkins TCRWP, Third Grade Writing Unit 1: Crafting True Stories. Students used this resource as a way to improve their personal narratives.
