This activity consists of 8 centers. Each center consists of 6 problems related to writing equations of lines in slope-intercept form.
1. Find the slope, 2. Write the equation given slope and y-intercept, 3. Write the equation given the slope and a point, 4. Write the equation given two points, 5. Write an equation parallel to the equation given and through a given point, 6. Write an equation perpendicular to the equation given and through a given point.
I groups students in 3's or 4's to complete this activity. Every student must write every problem in order for the group to get credit. Once the group agrees on an answer, they write the answer on the answer sheet provided (less grading!).
This is a review activity to a linears unit. Many of the slopes are fractions as well as many of the y-intercepts. I also gave some parallel and perpendicular line equations in standard form for practice in solving for y.
Typically it takes groups 10 minutes to complete each center although some standard and EC classess have needed more time. I post a timer on the SmartBoard and at the end of the time the students pass the center on to the next group. Another strategy is to have the groups actually move themselves, but this only works for my best behaved classes.
