This will help take the guess work out of, "How do I teach my kindergarten students to write?!"

The units will be sequential and progressively get harder throughout the school year as students' skills develop.

UNIT 2 - MAKING A LIST

-------------------------------------

I start the school year teaching students how to label (Unit 1 in my Kindergarten Writing Series.)

At the beginning of the year, students are learning that words have meaning. Letters and words can be used to represent plants, animals, objects, places and people in the world around them and on paper.

Next, we move on to creating lists. I teach students that words belong together, and we can group words into lists. In fact, we are always makings lists in our heads... even if we don't realize it!

I brainstorm lists with my students whole group - our favorite foods, toys, animals, etc. This really gets their gears going and they get so excited to create more lists! I love how excited kinders get when they realize words have meaning!

WHAT IS INCLUDED

-------------------------------

★ Cut & Paste Lists

I start the unit with these activities. Students can trace the words, and then cut/paste them onto the list. This helps student become familiar with how to group words into a list format. They then expand their lists by drawing three more things that could be added to the list. I love seeing what they come up with, and this is an excellent extension activity.

★ I Can Make a List Mini Book

Great for whole group, small groups or even a literacy center. Students choose three things from the word banks to add to their list on each page. I then have them "read" their lists to a partner.

★ Word Bank Posters and Coordinating BW Lists

17 coordinating themes are included!

Students write a list using the words from the picture banks. 8 pictures/words are provided that go with the theme, and students choose 5. This is so fun because students cannot copy each other because everyone will have different "favorites". You can use the BW copies alone or print the color posters for a Writing Center.

Please see the product preview for more photos and ideas.
