This December writing unit addresses the age old question, "What am I going to do today for my writing mini-lesson?" Each mini-lesson helps to build competent, equipped, and motivated young writers!
If you have been to my writing workshop presentation, this unit follows the monthly mini-lessons for December and fits into a year's worth of writing mini-lessons. This unit does not
have a heavy emphasis on Christmas or holidays. There is one lesson with reindeer food, but Santa is not mentioned. There is one lesson on decorating a tree. The other lessons are not holiday related.
The unit has an emphasis on Word Choice and How To writing.

General information on writer's workshop and the mini-lesson
9 easy to follow writing mini-lessons (some lessons will need to be repeated on multiple days due to the complexity or the multiple options of the lessons)
A variety of writing paper templates.

This unit is standards based and has been aligned to the CC and Texas Teks for writing.
Standards Addressed in the December Unit
Use a combination of drawing, dictating, and writing to compose informative/explanatory texts in which they name what they are writing about and supply some information about the topic.
Use a combination of drawing, dictating, and writing to narrate a single event or several loosely linked events, tell about the events in the order in which they occurred, and provide a reaction to what happened.
With guidance and support from adults, respond to questions and suggestions from peers and add details to strengthen writing as needed.
Participate in shared research and writing projects (e.g., explore a number of books by a favorite author and express opinions about them).
With guidance and support from adults, recall information from experiences or gather information from provided sources to answer a question.
