My students love to complete an edited paper (or any writing) because they know they will use “Fancy Paper.”
How I use these:
1. Sometimes after reading an article or reading passage or after a lesson on a topic in Science or Social Studies, the students have a written response.
2. They complete a graphic organizer and write a rough draft and then use the fancy paper as the final copy or just write directly on the fancy paper and skip the rough draft (your preference).
3. I staple the papers together, reading passage on the bottom, then graphic organizer, rough draft (edited or unedited) and then final writing on the fancy paper.
I sometimes allow them to use colored pencils to color the little pictures.
I also copy several copies to keep at the writing center so students can choose which paper to use, especially for research projects.
