We always start our year writing personal narrative, often about what we did over the summer, as I'm sure many of you do. A few years ago we began using the mentor text "Nothing Ever Happens on 90th Street" by Roni Schotter about a young girl with a writing assignment who gets some help from her neighbors.
I have used this book as a guide for my students to write their own personal narratives. We look at all the advice the character, Eva, receives, and then practice using it ourselves before writing,
