Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery and in this Inspired Poetry Packet
students read nine famous poems and use them as inspiration for their own poetry. By learning from the greats, students who previously didn’t know they were poets are able to create beautiful and truly inspired writing. Students read poems and write their own poetry based on the works of Emily Dickinson, Langston Hughes, Sandra Cisneros, William Carlos Williams, Shel Silverstein, Lucille Clifton, Edward Lear and Walt Whitman.
