Complete Picture Book Included
Two versions of the picture book, The Flying Worm, are included: a printable PDF file and a PowerPoint presentation. No need to purchase the hard copy of the book - it’s all included. Reading the book with your class optionally aligns with Common Core standards RL.K.10 and RL.1.10.

WATCH THE STORY VIDEO!
A fun animated video that reads the entire book included in this lesson can be found at:

Illustration Worksheets
There are 12 illustration worksheets that reinforce how the illustrations describe the setting, characters, and events in the story. Students color the illustrations for themselves and trace over summary statements that describe how each picture relates to the story. Optionally aligns with Common Core standards RL.K.3 and RL.1.3
______________________________________________________________________________
Writing Center
This Worm Town Writing Center includes 2 different layouts with illustrated writing prompts and templates adjusted for different levels of difficulty. It can be placed on a bulletin board, a tri-fold board, or in a 3-ring binder. Everything you need is included: printable illustrations, title, prompts, border, and student writing templates. Optionally aligns with Common Core standards W.K.3, SL.K.5, W.1.3, and SL.1.5.
______________________________________________________________________________
Task Cards
There are 10 task cards that analyze the illustrations in the story. These cards are a great way to introduce and review the concepts of story setting, characters, and events with your entire class. All you have to do to prepare the task cards is print them out and fold them in half. That’s it! Students study the illustrations on the front of the cards as you go through the prompts provided on the back. Optionally aligns with Common Core standards RL.K.7, SL.K.2, RL.1.7, and SL.1.2.

Brain Breaks
I call these brain breaks, “Wiggler Break Apps,” because they are worm-themed and are hung on a printable paper smartphone. Kids love choosing which “app” to do! Laminate and hang the paper app icons with tape or velcro so that you can easily remove them, and then read the flip-side to prompt your kids to do fun, wiggly activities.
