I put my kiddies' names on clothes pegs and let them move their peg to indicate that stage that they are at. It comes in particularly useful when they are at the 'Peer Edit' stage.
Alternatively, you could print them off at half-size and use them as labels on trays or baskets for children to turn in their work based on where they're at. The writing world is your oyster!
