In my first grade classroom, I have assigned a character (a writing friend) to each step of the writing process. First grade is the first time my students are introduced to the writing process, so I begin talking about these characters long before I expect students to use them.
This product includes three resources:
-Anchor Charts: These charts are posted in my room as a resource for students. I like that they provide a simple explanation in the thought bubble as well as a more detailed look in the side panel.
-Circle Charts: I attached these circle charts to magnets. When we are writing as a class or when I am modeling writing, I place the appropriate character on the board as a visual. We sing a song to introduce the character when he or she comes out. Da na na na na Revising Remus da na na na na na na whoo whoo (to the tune of the Inspector Gadget theme song)! These characters are how I begin to slowly introduce the writing process at the beginning of the year.
-Student Mini Charts: The student charts included in this pack are designed to be a small (bookmark sized) reference form for students. Students can also keep track of the step they are on by moving a paperclip down the chart as they move from step to step. This gives them a more concrete understanding of each step.
These resources are all included in color and blackline versions. The anchor charts and circle charts are also available in 5 chevron colors: yellow, pink, grey, green, and teal.
