Secondary English students know the basic structure of the essay as well as the writing process. I found myself reteaching basic concepts as review, and speeding through things like thesis writing, citations, and writing style. I made this writing passport as a way for students to coach themselves through the easy parts of the writing process so I can spend time working with them on the more advanced parts of writing.
This passport goes through thesis writing, drafting, intros, conclusions, peer AND SELF revising, editing, and reflection.
I give students homework out of this booklet and check the next day to make sure they're staying on track with the writing process. On the back of the booklet, there's a checklist where they get a "stamp" in their passport when it's completed or if it's completed late. When they hand in their essays, they hand in the booklets. That way, they are held accountable for staying on top of the process, and it gives me a very quick and easy way to grade their progress.
This is by far, one of the most efficient things I've made for essay writing. I required passports for the first 2 essays of the year. When I didn't require it, I still had the majority of students requesting them to help them work through the process. I had to make all new copies.
Speaking of copies, you'll see that the pages are not in numeric order. When you print them 2 sided and put them together, and fold them in half, they all lined up. Please let me know if you're having any difficulties with this.
This is also a PDF version because I made it in Publisher. If you would like to make changes, buy it and send me a message. I'll send you the Publisher file.
