This is an engaging and creative writing activity for elementary music classes! Make your principals happy with an activity that incorporates writing and covers the top tier of Bloom's Taxonomy (creating). Not only do students create stories to accompany classical music, but they also have match each story to the musical elements of the musical excerpt of your choice.
I love this lesson because it can be used again and again with different pieces of music and I get to see 4th and 5th graders get their creative storytelling juices going!
The books are very easy to make, all you will need is a pair of scissors for a minimal amount of cutting, and something to write/draw with.
If your school is using the FFT model, it will definitely show student pride in work, and it also opens up your lessons to be a student-led discussion group. Students have a great discussing their story lines.
What you will receive:
1. Ideas for use and examples of musical selections
2. Worksheet that students use to notate the musical elements that will coincide with their story.
3. Mini-Book template
4. Mini-Book sample with pages already filled in
5. Mini-Book Diagram with photo instructions
