Writing Prompt: Masque of the Red Death
This writing prompt is for students to complete before reading "The Masque of the Red Death" by Edgar Allan Poe. It may be one of the more difficult short stories students read in their studies of American literature, so properly introducing it with an interactive, informal writing assignment allows them to connect to a theme of the story in advance of reading it.

This is suitable as an in-class writing assignment or as homework.
