Example 1: July 2: July’s birthstone is the ruby
You are a doctor. Every year, you make several trips to Burma to help sick people. After several years of providing this service for free to the Burmese people, one village has decided to give you a gift. The gift is some land that has a mine on it. In this mine, you discover RUBIES!
(Burma is most known for having the most precious rubies in the world). What will you do with the rubies?
On the other side of this page, draw a picture of what you plan to do with the rubies.
Example 2: July 23rd: Detroit Riots
One of the worst riots in U.S. history breaks out in the heart of Detroit's predominantly African American inner city. By the time it was ended four days later on July 27th by 7,000 National Guard and U.S. Army troops, 43 people were dead, 342 injured, and nearly 1,400 buildings had been burned. Interview and adult that remembers these riots and write about what you learn. If you can not, imagine what living through a riot would be like and write about what you imagine.
