Give your students a journal page a day and get their creative juices flowing as well as challenge their thought processes. Each day's writing prompt is specifically centered around a special event, holiday or observance. Many will challenge them to really 'think' about moral issues and can be used in conjunction with character education.
An example of a prompt that centers around a 'special day' ...
* October 5th: World Teachers Day.
The writing prompt is: "A Good teach is one of the most valuable people we can meet in our lives. Teachers dedicate themselves to education. Howe would the world be different if no one took the time to teach other people? What, in you opinion, makes a person a good teacher?"

*October 19th: October is Crime Prevention Month
The writing prompt is: "According to the National Crime Prevention Council, crime prevention should be both a grassroots community movement and a national priority. Have you (or someone you know) been affected by a crime? What happened? What ideas can you come up with the might deter crime in your neighborhood? Why do you believe your ideas will help? Who might you take your ideas to?
