This Writing Prompts Packet includes 180 writing prompts to go with 115 books, perfect for grades K-2. These books are all different from the books featured on my Author Study Writing Prompts Packet.
I made QR codes to go along with 102 of these stories, which are available in my QR Codes for 102 Stories packet!
Writing prompts provide children with the opportunity to apply purposeful writing, to express their thoughts and opinions, and to make both real life and text to text connections while writing about books. Students will make inferences about stories and cite specific evidence from the text to support answers, as well as summarize key details and ideas in a story.
This packet of writing prompts aligns with and covers almost every single one of the ELA CCSS for Reading Literature, Reading Informational Text, Reading Foundational Skills, and Writing. Speaking and Listening Standards are also covered, as students listen carefully to the stories and share thoughts and ideas about the text both before and after completing the writing prompt.
The activities in this packet can be used many ways. I often use a prompt after we read a story as an extension activity for a writing lesson. It’s a great time for students to work on writing conventions and organizing thoughts. These prompts also are wonderful for sub plans or to use if you are a substitute teacher and want some extra activities to have with you. They can also be used as a homework activity.
I hope you enjoy these and find them as useful as I do!
