Writing Prompts Story Elements Trading Cards

Use these trading cards as a more interesting form of writing prompts. These trading cards help students generate writing ideas through the story elements pictures and the discussions students have about each one. Students are very motivated to write when they use these trading cards.

There are 3 different sets of cards included in this pack. Each set has 28 (one-sided) cards:

• characters
• settings
• events & clues

The character cards come in color and black and white to allow students to color or add details and make the cards their own.

The setting and details cards are in color only.

There is also a template for students to create their very own character, setting or problem design

You can print off the colored cards and laminate them to use as a class activity where students choose 1 main character card, 1 setting, 1 problem and 1 event/detail. Alternatively, you can use the black and white versions which can be printed on tag board for students to keep and trade! The possibilities are endless! Use these cards as springboards for students to write their own stories.

Trade the cards to start new stories or to add new elements to their original story.
