Write with Me is a fun, engaging take-home journal that can be used throughout the school year. There are 36 journal prompts to use on a weekly basis. The purpose of this journal is to provide students and parents with educational opportunities to interact with one another in the home setting. These journals and activities allow the parent and child to ask one another questions, learn about family history, and write together in a relaxed atmosphere.
I assign the weekly journal prompt on a Monday, and then the students turn their journals in on Friday. There is a log sheet included where the parent/guardian initials once the journal is completed. The students turn in their journals to our designated spot. I have seen a lot of growth in confidence in my writers, and they really love the interactions they encounter with their family members.
These journal prompts are aligned to the Common Core Standards for fourth, fifth, and sixth grades under the writing standards.

Updated: I added a supplemental Journal 3 and Journal 4 for those students you may teach who are foster children, adopted, or live with someone other than a family member.
