Writing Prompts and Rubrics!
As a teacher, you will always have students who never know what to write about! Here is a little list of
writing prompts for each section of the Common Core. This packet includes a list of 36 Opinion Prompts,
36 Informative/Explanatory Prompts, and 36 Narrative Prompts, so you can use one for
every week of the school year. It also includes grade specific rubrics for grades 1-5 for each type of prompt!
Cut and paste prompts onto a big poster board and hang them somewhere in your classroom,
or cut them up and fold them and put them in a jar so children can pick at random!
This is also a great way for students to get practice writing prompts that they may not have done before,
so they won’t be caught off guard when State Testing comes around!
There are so many ways to use these!
Each grade level comes with their own set of requirements to elaborate on these types of prompts, so I’ve
also included rubrics for each grade level 1-5 (based entirely on the Common Core Standards)
so you and your students can quickly review how to expound upon the prompts provided.
