USE THESE WRITING PROMPTS as bell ringers, for skill building activities, or for writing workshop. Over forty different critical thinking prompts offer options for a variety of writing forms. {SAVE: this is part of my Writer's Workshop Bundle]

April 2020 - these prompts can be shared and used via Google Drive

These are prompts with a twist -- they go beyond the initial prompt and ask kids to reflect on their writing and revise what they wrote. These revisions can happen right away or during bell ringer time on subsequent days.

After students respond to the prompt, they will be directed to look for ways to improve their writing. For example, they might be asked to:

-develop their ideas by adding more detail or examples

-expand their points through the use of analogy, figurative language and imagery

-improve their diction and tone

-experiment with their sentence structure

-try different ways to introduce a topic

-use dialogue

-refute contrasting ideas

♥ These are so thorough and awesome. I love how all the Room 213 products really push the kids to do more, and scaffold it in such a great way. Thank you!

♥ I have loved having this as an addition to my ELA class. It has been a challenge for my students to think more "outside the box" with their responses. I enjoy the fact that we can do just a little bit every day. I had to be careful though, as I felt like I could have based my entire semester around these writing prompts!
