Teach your students how to write questions, hypothesize, and record information from experiments following the Scientific Method. This lesson provides a scaffolded approach to developing scientific questions and formatting hypotheses. Students read several scenarios that could lead to scientific experiments. They use the situations to identify the controls and variables, and then create questions and hypotheses based on their determinations. Use these will the whole class or as a re-teaching tool for students struggling with questioning and hypothesizing.
Additionally, a graphic organizer for recording information for all steps of the Scientific Method is provided to ensure that students complete thorough investigations of experiements. This can be used as a follow-up to the scenarios, to read about the experiements of others, and to perform experiements in or outside of class.
