Are you looking to teach your students how to write creative, evaluative and fluent reviews? Then this lesson plan pack will guide you through the process of teaching your students how to substantiate their opinions with specific reasons, and help them in planning, writing, editing and reviewing their reviews.

This lesson plan pack contains the following (each section contains instructions, printable worksheets and answer keys where applicable):

Lesson 1: Giving Reasons for Your Opinions - In a review, it is not enough for the reviewer to just give his/her opinion; they also have to explain it by giving reasons and details. Therefore, students need to practice this skill of substantiating their thoughts and opinions with evidence and explanations. The following exercises will assist them in developing this skill.

Lesson 2: Understanding Reviews - One of the best ways to learn how to write a review is to examine and discuss examples of actual reviews. Therefore, the following exercises will guide students through the process of analyzing reviews in terms of their structure, language and content, so that they can better replicate these features in their own writing.

Lesson 3: Reviewing a Music Video -  One of the most important parts of learning to write well is learning the process of writing – from initial thoughts, to planning, writing, editing and final draft stage. This lesson will take students through the process of watching a music video, discussing their responses to it, analyzing it and then writing a review on it.

Lesson 4: Planning a Review - The key to any good piece of writing is thorough planning. If a review is well planned and thought out, it will be well structured and the thoughts conveyed will be clear and well-explained. Therefore, the following exercises and worksheets will help to guide students through the process of planning the structure and content of their reviews.

Lesson 5: Writing & Editing a Review - Obviously, one of the most important stages in writing is the actual writing! These exercises will help students to turn their plans and ideas into well-written reviews, and assist them in editing and proofreading their own work. They will also be guided through the process of peer editing and reviewing each other’s written pieces.
