This lesson's topic is geared around fish and birds for paragraph research!

What is paragraph research???
Paragraph research is a technique I created to help students understand the basics of doing research. '(I'm sure many other teachers do this as well, I just put a name to it). I came up with the idea while teaching 7th grade Language Arts. While asking my students to write one paragraph on a topic that they chose, I saw, much to my dismay, that none of them could write the paragraph while staying on topic and giving it supporting details. Sentences did not flow, opinions were inserted, 1st person pronouns were used and the facts were not facts but rather what they “thought” was right. Thus, paragraph research was created.

Paragraph research is taking one topic and writing, as it says, one paragraph while staying on the topic and giving details. Once the paragraph is perfected, taking one of those details and expanding on it into a second paragraph and so on. The beginning lessons, shown here, are basic and as students master a simple paragraph, on topic, supporting details, no first person pronouns, etc. the lessons become more complex. Students must have the basics in order to write a detailed, informative research paper. This lesson is not difficult but it shows students the foundation of writing research.

**Perfect for a refresher in writing research papers**

**Great for those students who need a little extra help in getting their facts straight and organized on topic**

All 6th, 7th, and 8th Grade CCSS are included! As the paragraph research turns into a full research paper, more CCSS will be relevant.
