Writing rubric in a song. Kids will remember some of the main elements of the writing and language arts rubric, and take a song and dance break, too.
The writing rubric rules apply to fiction and nonfiction. They include: write about one topic, tell about the 5Ws, use your 5 senses to describe, write for an audience, make it colorful to read, start writing with a great “lead,” give examples (or “play a little riff”) on the theme, and summarize at the end, be careful, neat, and spell it right.
Many, though not all, of the common core standards are featured in this song including:
• Writing Standards (W.1.1) (W.1.2) (W.1.3) (W.1.4)
• Conventions of Standard English (L.K.1)
This writing rubric song is ideal for grades 1-5, and also kindergarten if they’re writing more than a sentence per topic.
