Looking for Spanish? Spanish Sentence Building Cards
These word cards can be used in a variety of ways to help your students learn about the parts of a sentence, parts of speech, or question words. They are great for writing workshop, literacy stations, or a writing center because they allow students to be successful and independent at the same time! This product is 59 pages long and include over 365 word cards!
Suggestions for use:
For beginning writers: Students build sentences using the cards, allowing them to truly be writers before they have developed the skills necessary to successfully spell words on their own! This practice gives them a schema about writing so they are ready to be successful when their sounding out skills catch up!
For advanced writers: Use the cards to help students decide what they are going to write about. Have them build a sentence as a support in expanding their ideas about the topic they chose. Also use the cards to help them add details to their writing.
For beginning readers: Giving students a mixed up sentence, students have to rearrange the words so that they make sense again.
Parts of speech sorting: Have students sort the words by parts of speech (nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs)
Word wall: Put magnets on the back of the words, and hang them up for students to use as a reference tool that they can take back to their desk when writing.
Sorting: Students could use these word cards to sort by theme (example: living vs. non-living things), beginning sound, ending sound, etc.
