These 100 pages of sentence stems are great for the beginning of the school year. As students learn new sight words (word wall words), students can read the sentence stem (writing prompt) and complete the sentence by using the sounds they have learned to sound out the remainder of their sentence. After completing the sentence, students can illustrate their sentence in the box at the top of the page. All 100 pages have an empty box at the top for an illustration and a sentence stem. An extra line is included for students who may already know how to write using more sounds/words. This provides for differentiation.

Some sentences build on each other such as the three example pages below:

We like

We like to

We like to go

As students learn new words, they can read the word and complete their sentence. As students learn more words, you may provide them with fewer words as a starter so that they can use the word wall to find the words needed. Several pages may begin the same so that you can pick and choose depending on which sight words you have taught your students. Four examples of such pages are listed below.

We can

I can

He can

She can

These pages are great for homework, literacy centers, writing centers, or for a writing workshop lesson. I hope your students enjoy completing their sentence stems.
