This unit, How to Write Spectacular Sentences, will guide your primary kiddos through activities to assist them when writing more vivid sentences! There are many hands-on activities and printables that your students can use to practice this skill!
Included in this unit are lessons to lead up to a culminating activity that will demonstrate their learning about writing spectacular sentences. The last activity includes a "magic formula" that will guarantee they have an awesome sentence!
To get them ready for the "magic formula" lesson, they will practice writing with lessons including:
~Anchor Charts: There are a variety of charts to hang for student reference about the key parts needed for a vivid sentence.
~Five Senses: This lesson generates adjectives and asks students to use their five senses to write more vivid sentences. They will Turn and Talk with neighbors about nouns that fit two senses, which will stretch their thinking and get their critical thinking juices flowing!
~Neat Nouns: This lesson begins with a "Find Someone Who" activity where students mingle to find different nouns from their classmates. Then they complete Neat Noun Grids, to help generate more creative thinking using nouns. Various printables are included to practice using this skill to write sentences.
~Vivid Verbs: Students will explore verbs by thinking about Shades of Meaning. There is a Write the Room activity in which students generate vivid verbs instead of those given. Next they will complete a lesson that revolves around creative thinking and a Mingle and Teach activity. Printables are included with these two lessons to allow for student practice with using vivid verbs when writing spectacular sentences.
~The final culminating lesson includes practice with the "magic formula" and various posters to spark their creative thinking. Students will work with each other to generate spectacular sentences, using the Neat Nouns and Vivid Verbs they previously learned about. Various printables are included for students to demonstrate their learning about sentence writing.
