Can they build it? Yes, they can! Writing sentences becomes easy and fun with this construction themed unit. This common core aligned product is designed to be used in teacher-led small groups. This is a perfect addition to your literacy center rotation.
This product is one phase of my "Constructing Sentences" Unit. Students will learn what an adverb does and the different types of adverbs they can use in their writing.
During this phase, students will......
*Examine BLUEPRINTS, the main teaching tool, that shows students how to "build" their sentences. The parts of the sentence and parts of speech are identified. Some blueprints may have more than one example.
*Use what is in their TOOLBOX to build sentences modeling the blueprint they examined. Students will color parts of speech, cut out the sentence strips, and arrange them on their own "construction site" to make a complete sentence. The teacher will check each sentence before students can move on.
*Paste the sentences they have "constructed" to their own worksheet. Next, they will write the sentence using correct capitalization and punctuation. Then students will self-edit their own work using CAUTION.
*Work on their own away from the center using worksheets to practice what they have learned before moving on to the next phase.
Once all phases are complete, students can complete a special worksheet for assessment where they will build and expand on sentences on their own.
Depending on how much time you can devote to your small groups, this product could provide a few weeks of instruction!
