Students will work through the writing process to create great short reports as they follow the guidelines in this step-by-step unit.
After reading a one-page, nonfiction story, students answer key questions designed to extract important facts from the written information. The questions are structured in logical sequence and require complete-sentence answers. Then the answers, along with the topic sentence, are written on a blank copy of the included report page template, resulting in a short report on the topic.
These activities are a great stepping stone to research projects and essay writing. Ask students to complete additional research in print and digital sources to further support the information they've gained from the included articles and to include in their final essay.
