I am always looking for ways to motivate students to write in the classroom, especially when it comes to working with kids in small groups, and writing is a good silent activity. My students hate to write when just given a prompt, always rush through it, and it’s never quality work.
I also use technical words that students should be using to extend their lexicon, in the classroom as much as possible. Three things that I am constantly working on with my students from day one are observations, inferences and predictions. The one that the students have the most difficulty with is inference. I model two writing activities before I allow the students to try the activity on their own.
