Description

This writing survey is a fun and engaging way to assess middle and high school students' previous experiences with and attitudes about writing. It could be used at the beginning of the school year or semester (depending on how your school structures classes) to help inform and direct your writing curriculum.

The writing survey includes questions about students' favorite and least favorite types of writing. It also will show you how they view themselves as writers in addition to other helpful information that will tell you more about how to motivate each student. Unlike many writing surveys, this one features a fun "would you rather" section about writing to lighten the mood and increase engagement with the writing survey.

If you want to be sneaky, you can even ask them to respond to the writing survey questions with complete sentences to have a starting point from which to gauge their writing abilities.
