This is a thorough PowerPoint (equipped with entertaining pictures) aimed at helping high school writers improve their sentence variety. Not only does the PowerPoint give several foundational examples of how to improve sentence variety (varied length, varied punctuation usage, and varied voice), but it additionally offers explication and examples of how to make these things happen. The PowerPoint concludes with a reminder of things to look out for while experimenting with the covered techniques. I purposely used different colored fonts to encourage students to develop note-taking strategies (the text in white is what I have deemed as most important). Ultimately, I encouraged you to use this how you'd like--feel free to alter examples, wording, etc. I have used this PowerPoint in several different classes; it serves as a valuable lesson during the revision stage in the writing process. So, if you use the writing workshop model and you want a solid mini-lesson, check this out!
