Every year I do something with my students called the Annual Puppy Debate. I begin my showing them the 8 situations of puppies without the worksheets. I have the students move to one side of the room or the other, depending on if they would, or would not, give the person a puppy.
Students then go and fill out this information. This is to help them start to understand thesis statements and how opinions feed into the thesis. This also helps them address the counter argument.
