Teach each week of writing lessons using the science of writing and a mentor text that aligns with the skills and writing traits you are teaching. Using mentor texts helps students see examples of good writing. Students will learn how to write sentences, and paragraphs, use transition words, organize their writing, and more!

This full-year 2nd & 3rd-grade writing curriculum is designed to increase writing skills, establish positive writing mindsets, and develop an environment of collaboration.

What is included:

Each unit includes:

• whole class, individual and partner work using 4 mentor texts a month
• 20 lessons (5 per week) in each set except for set 1which has 4 lessons. Set 1 contains set-up activities and pre-assessments. Set 10 uses 2 books and contains 8 lessons. This set has extended activities for communication, types of presentation etc.
• many strategies that will help your students learn to write in an open-ended format while learning through an explicit progression of skills. (ie. grammar, conventions, sentence/paragraph writing)
• anchor charts and anchor chart ideas
• oral language lessons as part of writing that focus on conversation, drama, and more
• partner and independent work

Units can be used separately as skills build within the units. When used together, the scaffolding of skills builds from one unit to the next. This resource can help you start the year or can be used anytime throughout the year.

This full-year writing unit is a detailed and comprehensive curriculum that is easy to use and highly engaging to students. It is designed to help teachers implement a writing program in their classrooms that gets results.
