Writing Units: Opinion, Informational & Narrative Writing Graphic Organizers

This writing bundle includes everything you need to teach opinion, informational, and narrative writing with your 1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders. Differentiated posters, graphic organizers, and supports geared towards Grades 1-3 will provide your students the tools they need to become strong writers. 1. OPINION WRITING (Updated December 2021):

WHAT'S INCLUDED:

• Posters (Color or B&W): "What is an Opinion?" with examples, Sentence Starters (for Opening, Reasons, and Closing) O.R.E.O and O.R.E.R.E.O Opinion Writing
• Graphic Organizers: From brainstorming to writing, these graphic organizers are supports that break down opinion writing in a visual way for students. Multiple options are included for writing about 1, 2 or 3 reasons, as well as 3 reasons with examples.
• Writing Checklists: These checklists are helpful reminders for students while opinion writing. They are included to print as a full page or mini checklists (4/page).
• Color Coding: Students color code opinion writing examples by opening, reason(s), and closing. Each passage is included with either 1, 2, or 3 reasons.
• "Stick to the Topic": Students cut and glue strong reasons that clearly support the topic. These are included for finding 1, 2 or 3 reasons.
• Opinion Writing Prompt Sheets: These 10 writing prompts come with visual supports for students. Primary line or regular line options are both included.
• Opinion Writing Journal: This journal comes with 32 prompts for students to cut and glue into their journals. The journal is included as a half page or full page option, as well as different rule-width options for writing paper. The prompts included can either be used in a journal or on their own.

2. INFORMATIONAL WRITING: (Updated 1/1/22)

• Posters (Color or B&W): "What is Information?", an example of informational writing, Sentence Starters (for Opening, Facts/Points, and Closing), and Types of Hooks (3 or 4 types)
• Graphic Organizers: From brainstorming and researching to prewriting, these graphic organizers are supports that break down informational writing in a visual way for students. Multiple options are included for writing about facts only, one point with supporting facts, or multiple points with supporting facts.
• Writing Checklists: These checklists are helpful reminders for students while informational writing. They are included to print as a full page or mini checklists (4/page).
• Color Coding: Students color code informational writing examples by either 1.) Opening (topic), 3 Facts, and Closing or 2.) Opening (topic), Point, and 3 Supporting Facts.
• "Stick to the Topic"/ "Stick to the Point": Students cut and glue 3 strong supporting facts that clearly support the topic OR 6 supporting facts that clearly support 2 points on a topic.
• Hook Writing Practice: Students practice writing either 3 or 4 types of informational writing hooks on a provided topic.
• Informational Writing Prompt Sheets: These 10 writing prompts come with visual supports for students. Primary line or regular line options are both included.
• Informational Writing Journal: This journal comes with 32 prompts for students to cut and glue into their journals. • Graphic Organizers: From brainstorming to writing, these graphic organizers are supports that break down narrative writing in a visual way for students. Multiple options are included for writing about a beginning, middle and end OR an opening, events, and closing.
• Hook Writing Practice: Students practice writing either 3 or 5 types of narrative writing hooks on a provided topic. A poster is also included with examples.
• Narrative Endings Writing Practice: A poster with 6 types of narrative endings as well as graphic organizers for students practice writing 6 types of narrative endings.
• Personal Narrative Resources: Posters for "What is a Personal Narrative?" and "Tips for Writing a Personal Narrative", as well as graphic organizers for brainstorming memories and prewriting.
• Small Moments Writing: A poster and graphic organizers for brainstorming small moments, as well as planning out parts of their small moment during prewriting.
• Story Elements: A poster with graphic organizers for planning out story elements for their pieces of narrative writing.

4. WRITING WORD WALL:

All word walls are available in 4 color options, including a black background (as pictured), a multi-colored background (with black or white font), and an all-white background.
