This is one writing warm-up template based on a imitation method of teaching grammar. The idea is that on Monday, students would just notice certain things about the sentence. For example, the sentence has a capital at the beginning. I would then review capitalization at the beginning of the sentence rule. I have Advanced students, so I want them to notice the sentence has a dependent and independent clause. I would then teach those rules. On Tuesday, student practice naming parts of speech. I only have them label the independent clauses. All phrases are marked with what type of phrase they are (prepositional phrase). Wednesday is where student revise by adding details to the sentence. I tell them to find the nouns and further describe them. Thursday students will imitate the pattern of the sentence and create their own sentence. If the sentence begins with an intro. prepositional phrase followed by a comma and an independent clause, they would write a sentence of their very own that begins with a different prepositional phrase a comma and a different independent clause. Friday they would find a place in a current writing piece to add a sentence with this pattern to their writing. All I do is switch out sentences each week that contain a grammar or punctuation rule I want to teach that week. I will be collecting these all year and posting a completed set for all year summer 2019! Enjoy!
