Elevate your students' writing conferences and writing workshop partner work! Set up a student writing center to compliment your Writing Workshop, keep students engaged and increase accountability when working with partners. Narrative, Opinion, and Informational cards are included. Each set includes 24 conference cards, for a total of 72 different cards. The cards are closely aligned with the standards in the Lucy Calkins Writing Units of Study, grades 3-5, however, they can be used in any Writing Workshop that you design for your students.
Color and Black & White cards included.
I have used these for partner work and for my early finishers who are "done!"
Put on a binder ring or glue onto popsicle sticks for your writing center tools. Use as a task card where your students look for specific examples within their writing. Have student set a "next step" after their conference to help with accountability too.
Another idea is to keep a set of these cards in a binder for your student conferences. You can give the student the card at the end of the conference for his/her reference or you can simply use the cards to help guide your conversation with the student.
Many of the cards are focused with the revision mindset. Encourage your students to look over their drafts and re-visit sections while attending to structure, craft, content, or conventions. Mix and match the cards, as they apply to your lessons and students' needs.
Each subtopic includes four cards focused on the following:
Narrative: Creating a Vision, Characters, Personal Narrative, Revision, Author Craft, Editing.
Opinion/Persuasive: Creating a Vision, Organizing Information, Author Craft, Revision, Introduction/Conclusion, Editing.
Informational: Creating a Vision, Structure, Research/Organization, Author Craft, Revision, Editing.
