I came up with this idea as I was teaching last year. I wanted my students to be aware of their personal writing goal so, I made visual goals. We went over the different goals together so each student knew what the goals/picture represented (perfect for my non-readers/writers). They were so excited to EARN a new goal. This was the only incentive I used to keep them engaged in their learning.
This set includes the following goals with visuals:
- I can add details to my picture
- I can label my picture
- I can stretch out sounds (and) I can tap out sounds
- I can add words to my story
- I can use spaces
- I can use punctuation
- I can add more to my words
- I can think of more than one idea for a story
- I can write about one small moment
These were the goals that most of my students worked toward last year but if you have any suggestions for additions, please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org
The set ALSO includes a full sized "poster" version of each goal.
These goals are intended to be laminated and displayed inside writing folders. If your writing folders do not include the "card holding spot" (see picture on cover photo), you can tape, paper clip, or make your own card holder to display the goals.
The important point is that each student knows how they can improve their writing!
