Tired of hearing your students complain that they don't know what to write about? These are a great planning and pre-writing tool for students. At the start of a new unit, have students fill out one of these Idea Charts to keep in their writing folders and use throughout the unit. For each idea chart, students draw a quick picture and/or jot down the words for their ideas.
Units of writing included:
*Personal Narratives (I love...)
*How to (I know how to...)
*Information Writing (I am an expert about...)
*Opinion Writing (My favorite...)
*Creative Writing (My creative characters...)
For Information Writing, a student may draw/write that he/she is an expert about Disney World, Chuck-E-Cheese, etc in the PLACES column; Sharks, Dogs, etc in the ANIMALS column; Abraham Lincoln, my brother, etc in the PEOPLE column; and Cars, Legos, etc in the THINGS column. Now your student has 8+ ideas to write about for your Expert Book unit!
Please leave some feedback if you can! Thank you!
