By now we’re all pretty familiar with the six-word memoir, the genre started by Ernest Hemingway. In this lesson, students are presented with a variation on Hemingway’s theme. Instead of making the stories personal and honest, students are required to write a six-word HORROR story.
I have had huge success with this concept in my high school classroom, and I’ve included some of my students’ stories as examples for you to enjoy.
When it comes time to share your own stories in your classroom, I suggest turning the lights down low and putting on some ambient music. Your students will not forget this engaging lesson!
