Looking for a quick post-holiday activity that doubles as a valuable life-skill in manners? Check out this template for writing thank you notes. Find a free Thank You Note card online for your students' final drafts (or have them bring in a Thank You card from home), and they can actually deliver the card to the recipient. Students really enjoy this lowkey writing activity, and many parents have shared their appreciation with me over the years as well! File away to use each year :).
To teach the form itself is very quick. I usually model my own thank you note writing on the board or document camera. The rough draft writing, editing/revising, and final draft can be done in class or at home, depending on your time needs. I find that it's best if I'm there to assist as students work on the rough drafts though!
Grading Tip: I usually grade the rough draft and just have them show me the final for a quick check. If I never see the final, they might lose a percentage off the total grade.
