This is to accompany a writing activity in my textbook. My regular students were unprepared for the variety of skills needed to classify and define work experience into qualifications.
The Power Pt. walks them through the process step by step. Students will need to take notes; classify details found in the poem into a category, and then elaborate tasks John Henry performed that fulfill each qualification.
Real-world rigor requires real work. This activity was challenging, but many students went above and beyond by researching railroad events occurring close to the work-history timeline. It worked in groups and individually.
