Product Description
After going to a couple of AP workshops and Social Studies writing workshops, I formed this acronym for writing a thesis and structured paragraph. I have used this method of writing with my students (all levels and abilities) for three years. It is a simple way to write a concise, one sentence thesis along with three supporting sentences and a closing. It is easy for the students to remember. It takes a couple of tries for the students to get it, but then it sticks. I allow them to choose the wording and order of the first part of the thesis as long as they still include all of the four parts. I have even had students go on to college who still use the format and say it works great for them.

T=Time period
R = Region of the world
A = what is the question About? (prompt)
P3 = Prove it in 3 ways

Example: In the early 20th century(T), the underlying causes of World War I (A) in Europe (R) were alliances (P1), an arms race (P2), and colonialism (P3).
OR In early 20th century Europe, the underlying causes...
OR The underlying causes of World War I in early 20th century Europe were ...

After the thesis, the students write a supporting, detailed sentence for each of the Ps. The closing sentence begins with "Although" or talks about changes in the future.

This is a word document so that you can add in the prompt or make any changes to it.
