This is an activity designed to facilitate imagination and enhance story telling through creative writing.
For children who 'get stuck for ideas' this activity helps them get started and begin to understand about 'extending the picture and plot' through words. For those needing extending, this activity provides the opportunity to add to the ideas already presented.
As a way of introduction, children create their own story option, similar to a multiple choice style.
Once they have made their choices, it is fun to compare with peers.
It also helps students to involve feelings and actions to build a richer story and this can extend into their own creative writing.
'Remember the feeling, remember the look, what you were thinking as that happened' etc....
As a way of extending the creative writing process for advanced students, there are sections in the story template which can be separated for extending the theme or line of thought.
I have enjoyed this activity with grade 3/4 students and it was wonderful to see the 'strugglers' smile and read their stories with confidence and a sense of empowerment that they could actually try their own story after completing this activity.
