The lesson begins with a general cooperative writing assignment where students taste and smell different foods and write about them, first as a group, and then singularly. Students will then create a Halloween menu for a unique restaurant. Their customers can be ghosts, vampires, zombies, witches, aliens, those dying of a plague, vermin—OR regular old humans who would enjoy a “themed” restaurant. Think pirate, superhero, Harry Potter, robots or any other fan-based idea where people dress-up and are obsessed with the details of whatever it is they adore.
This lesson can be changed for novels, seasons or other holidays, and can be used for one day or several, depending on how much of the lesson is used.
